MILWAUKEE – The CONEXPO-CON/AGG Next Level Awards celebrated exhibiting companies like John Deere Power Systems (JDPS), who was chosen as a finalist for the inaugural award. The JD18 industrial diesel engine, which is a part of its new Next Generation Engine platform, is pushing the boundaries of construction power and advancing the construction industry.
“Our JD18 was designed around the idea of future-proofing our engines for large equipment applications,” said Michael Lefebvre, Manager - Global Marketing and Product Strategy at John Deere. “Now equipment operators can get up to 908 hp in their equipment with fewer fluids to manage, fewer components to actively maintain and more overall durability.”
Designed with ease of service and repair in mind, the JD18 is an 18-liter, 6-cylinder diesel engine that can produce between 700 – 908 hp (522 – 677 kW). Its rear gear train produces excellent direct power and options up to two rear aux drives, providing quiet operation.
The JD18 gives operators exceptional power so they can confidently get the job done. The JD18 comes with up to 40 kW of power bulge at 1,800 rpm and offers reduced standard service and maintenance intervals. Operators can also take advantage of the prognostic capabilities of John Deere Connected Support™. The company’s remote monitoring and diagnostic services solution for John Deere-powered OEM equipment helps increase efficiency, profitability, productivity and uptime.
While that would be impressive enough on its own, it’s also equipped with:
- A Hydraulic Lash Adjustment (HLA) system, which offers a maintenance free valvetrain, eliminating the need to reset lash,
- A simplified air system that allows for the elimination of exhaust aftertreatment fluids while remaining emissions compliant,
- An overhead cam (OHC) design that helps provide better fuel economy, which plays an important role in lowering carbon emissions,
- A structurally durable bedplate design that is built for 20,000 hours of operational life and the ability to be rebuilt twice.
“The JD18 engine makes for a clever combination of power and sustainability, especially with its potential to introduce renewable fuels to diesel engine technology over time,” said CONEXPO-CON/AGG Show Director Dana Wuesthoff. “And that’s why CONEXPO-CON/AGG, and its panel of judges from the Association of General Contractors, selected it as a finalist for the inaugural Next Level Awards.”
